Information and Communication Technology (ICT) prepares students to participate in a rapidly changing world in which work and social activities are increasingly transformed by access to varied and developing technologies. Well developed ICT skills give students independence and control of their learning, allowing them to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information responsibly, creatively and with discrimination.
We believe that learning technologies can facilitate a deeper and more differentiated learning process by enabling students to connect with a wide range of information, people, communities and cultures. The effective use of ICT is a key twenty-first century life skill that ensures our students are enthusiastic, active and independent learners. As a school, we recognise that ICT augments excellent learning practices. The effective use of the wide range of facilities offered by learning technologies opens up unprecedented opportunities for invigorating learning and teaching across the whole curriculum.
The BYOD initiative is in line with our school-wide focus on personalised learning. It also aligns itself closely with the Primary Years Programme Learner Profile. As a school, we are convinced that technology enhances the education of our students. It is a tool that our students must be able to use effectively, ethically and safely if they are to succeed in the future world. A networked computer is now the primary knowledge building tool of our age, and it is necessary to teach our students to harness the potential it offers through everyday use in lessons. Accordingly, we are investing heavily in ICT infrastructure, including upgrading our wireless network and providing high bandwidth access to the internet ($40,000 was spent in 2016).
We now have the capacity to provide every student with fast access to online resources and creative tools at virtually any location within the school. Our Google Apps for Education system that has given staff and Year 5 to Year 8 individual accounts will form a core part of our strategy in supporting the school and BYOD devices.
We look forward to working together in this exciting development which we believe will have a very positive impact on our school's learning community.
