The State of NH is mandating schools to begin to use competencies to measure student achievement in courses. For parents who have had students in our district’s elementary schools this is a bit familiar to you. Your child will receive a letter grade based on a percentage but will also be assessed on the following competencies.
USE GRAPHIC DATA:
Read graphic data (e.g., in charts, graphs, photographs, videos, or maps) in print and digital texts.
Interpret graphic data (e.g., in charts, graphs, photographs, videos, or maps) with other information in print and digital texts.
Create graphic data (e.g., in charts, graphs, photographs, videos, or maps).
HISTORICAL THINKING
CAUSE AND EFFECT:
Give reasons why something happens and what happens as a result
Infer other things that could happen if things occurred differently
When given one side (cause/effect) they can identify the other (effect/cause)
COMPARE AND CONTRAST:
Identify similarities between things, people, events, and/or places
Identify differences between things, people, events, and/or places
Explain how the similarities and differences in things, people, events, and/or places impact their relationship to one another
DEFEND OPINION:
State an opinion
Backup an opinion using evidence from a variety of sources
USE OF RESOURCES:
Be able to find resources that can be used to “solve a problem”
Assess the reliability of found resources
Appropriately cite found resource
FACTUAL FOUNDATIONS:
Be able to accurately recall course content
