TEACHING I have been a teacher in the Moundsview School District for more than 30 years. There is so much to love about my profession! I have been lucky enough to have taught as a homeroom teacher in grades K, 1, 2 and 3. I spent 6 years serving in the Extension teaching position and was able to teach math and reading at every grade level. I was thrilled to be able to join the third grade teaching team again as a homeroom teacher several years ago.
I enjoy the homeroom classroom experience as students develop a caring community throughout the school year. While I teach to the standards at a grade level, I also encourage students to explore and learn based on interest and curiosity. I like to tie skills and concepts across curricular areas so that students see connections between what they are doing in math, literacy, social studies, and science. Mostly, I love to learn right along with the students!
I believe that parents are an integral part of the teacher/student relationship. Open communication is a valuable tool in helping teachers and parents to understand children, and to help children to gain personal understanding.
Periodically, I take videos of me teaching the class for evaluation purposes. These videos are shown internally with limited colleagues and professionals to help me to become a better teacher. I am always learning and growing!
I have two happy grown children with wonderful spouses, two loveable grandchildren and one obnoxious four-year old dog named Dooley. We like to spend a lot of time together as a family.
I like to spend time out of doors - gardening, hiking, biking, canoeing. Our world is amazing!
I like to solve puzzles, play with words, and enjoy books.
