Students in our class have access to Chromebooks. The Chromebook gives students access to the Google Suite of tools. The school district has assigned every student a google e-mail address through which they can access not only e-mail, but the Google suite and the internet. Students do not use their google e-mail in third grade and are not given the e-mail address. They sign in to Chromebacks using a QR code using a Clever badge.
We begin using Chromebooks with lessons about Digital Citizenship. Digital Citizenship refers to the safe and appropriate use of technology tools. We expect students to understand that the technology they are using and all programs used are owned by the Moundsview School District.
Be respectful, responsible and safe online
Use only your account
Keep your information and password private
That what you do online is permanent
When interacting with others online. Tell an adult if you see something inappropriate online
Share your personal information about yourself or others online
Purposely damage any device, data or files
Copy or download copyrighted materials
I suggest that students and families discuss the following:
Parents monitor use of technology at home and discuss safe and appropriate use.
Students do not share any personal photographs or videos online. Teachers may assign work in which they will take photos and videos for educational purposes.
Students do not share any personal information unless assigned through the classroom resources from the teacher using only the resources shared by the teacher.
Students do not use their school e-mail to contact others unless it is part of something assigned by a teacher.
Students do not use their school Chromebook to explore the internet on their own. Use of the internet is only done under the supervision of the teachers utilizing programs for educational purposes.
Students treat the equipment they are loaned with respect and care. Water bottles are kept separate from Chromebooks at all times.
In general, whether using personal or school technology, students should not use the names of other students in e-mails, posts, or any communications without the permission of the student given beforehand. And in that case, only first names are used.
