Unit 1
We Come to Know God
As we go through the chapters in Unit 1, we will learn how God is revealed in creation, Sacred Scripture, the Church, and - most perfectly- his Son. We will also discuss ways that we can increase our faith through prayer, the sacraments, and obedience.
September Prayers
The prayers that we will be focusing on and praying at the beginning of each religion class during the month of September are the Prayer to St. Michael and the Act of Faith
Prayer to St. Michael
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen
Act of Faith
O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe that your divine Son became man and died for our sins, and that he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the holy Catholic Church teaches, because you have revealed them, who can neither deceive nor be deceived.
Amen
October Prayer
The prayer that we will be focusing on and praying at the beginning of each Religion class during the month of October is the Prayer of St. Francis
Prayer of St. Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O, Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life,
Amen
November Prayer
Our prayer for the month of November will be the Memorare.
Memorare
Remember, O most compassionate Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto to you, O Virgin of Virgins, my mother; to you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me.
Amen
December Prayers
During the month of December we will be focusing on a different Advent prayer each week.
January Prayer
Our prayer for the month of January will be the Mother Seton Prayer.
Mother Seton Prayer
Lord God, you blessed Elizabeth Ann Seton with gifts of grace as wife and mother, educator and foundress, so that she might spend her life in service to you people.
Through her example and prayers may we learn to express our love for You in love for one another.
We as this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.
Amen
February Prayer
Our prayer for the month of February will be the Act of Love.
Act of Love
O My God, I love you above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because you are good and worthy of all my love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have injured me and I ask pardon of all whom I have injured.
Amen.
March Prayer
Our prayer for the month of March will be from St. Patrick's Breastplate
St. Patrick's Breastplate
Christ be with me
Christ before me
Christ behind me
Christ in me
Christ beneath me
Christ above me
Christ on my left
Christ on my right
Christ where I lie
Christ where I sit
Christ where I arise
Christ in the heart of every man
who thinks of me
Christ in every mouth of every man
who speaks of me
Christ in every eye that sees me
Christ in every ear that hears me
May everything I do be for Christ
Salvation is of the Lord
Amen.
April Prayer
Our prayer for April will be the Hail Holy Queen
Hail Holy Queen
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy
hail our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry poor banished children of Eve:
to thee do we send up our sighs.
mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.
Turn then most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us,
and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus,
O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
Amen
