YOU are an integral component in the progress of your child’s speech and language skills! Home-based activities, including homework, can provide numerous opportunities for you and your child to improve his or her speech and language skills.
ARTICULATION homework: Your child will need to practice to someone! If they practice their speech sounds without feedback, they are most likely reinforcing incorrect production patterns. We can discuss how you can remind them of and reinforce correct postures.
LANGUAGE homework: Language homework is not provided on a routine basis, but instead will be assigned as it is relevant for your child. Please be available for your child should they have a question, but, please do not do your child's homework with them. Likewise, please do not correct their errors. Homework allows me to see what your child has retained from our therapy sessions, and if they are having difficulty, it is beneficial for me to see it so that I know how to help them.
FLUENCY and VOICE homework: Your child will need to practice to someone! If they practice without feedback about their production, they are most likely reinforcing problematic patterns.
Working together, we can make progress toward achieving the skills necessary for your child to be a successful learner and communicator!
