Update 3/17/20 - All Shaw band students, parents & guardians...PLEASE READ

Below is information from an email I sent earlier this year. PLEASE use this for your online learning platform to maintain and improve your performance on your instrument.

Students, remember...all you need to do is login to your school gmail account and click on your SmartMusic bookmark. If you do not see your bookmark, make sure you click on "turn on sync."

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click Profile .
  3. Sign in to your Google Account.
  4. If you want to sync your info across all your devices, click Turn on sync. Turn on.

Lastly, I will know you have completed an assignment once you have recorded and submitted. I will then provide additional assignments either in the form musical exercises/songs from your Essential Elements lesson book (both beginner and concert band students) and scales (concert band students only).

Hello Shaw band parents & students

You may recall at the start of the school year, I sent an email with information about a web-based music learning software program called SmartMusic. It is a fun and exciting way to help motivate students to practice more at home. I also use this program a lot in my instruction with students here at school...so they are all familiar with it.

Smart Music is their home tutor! All material that the students learn during their school band lessons are contained in Smart Music including all pages from their band method book, the concert band songs they are preparing for the spring concert, and scales for each instrument. The school has purchased enough student subscriptions for all band students to be able to use at home.

Students have already set up their Smart Music accounts here at school. However, several students reported back with issues being able to login to their accounts at home. Since the "new" Smart Music is web-based, I learned of some troubleshooting tips (see attached) that I want to share so every student can login and start having fun!

Main troubleshooting tips:

1. The new Smart Music only works with the Google Chrome browser. Make sure you have the latest version.

2. Smart Music can be used on any desktop or laptop computer, tablet including iPad, or Chromebook.

3. Consult attached handout for accessing your device's microphone for recording (MAC or PC).

Below you will also find a link to a screencast I created for everyone to show you how to get started with SmartMusic! Please let me know if you are having any issues with being able to get your son or daughter signed into SmartMusic and I will try to the best of my ability to help get them logged in.
