Autumn Still Life
Students learn to create a guided oil pastel still life of pumpkins, gourds, and leaves. The students view examples of artwork by famous still life painter Paul Cezanne. The students learn how to arrange an effective still life composition of these colorful items.
Cityscape Collage/Drawing
Students learn the difference between seascapes, landscapes, and cityscapes. They also learn to identify the three "grounds" in these artworks: foreground, middle ground, and background. Using this knowledge, the students create their own cityscape collage/drawings complete with buildings, bridges, sidewalks, fountains, etc...
Chinese New Year Dragon
Students learn about Chinese New Year and the Chinese zodiac in art class. The students watch a video of a traditional Chinese New Year parade featuring dancers performing the Dragon Dance. Students create their own Chinese dragon puppets out of construction paper, paint and glitter.
Egyptian Cartouche
Students learn about the ancient Egyptian culture and their written language called hieroglyphics. The students create their very own Egyptian cartouche good luck charm. Inside the oval shaped cartouche, the students draw the hieroglyphic symbols that spell out their names.
