I was born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and grew up in Gastonia, NC. I graduated from Highland School of Technology with a focus in Medical Science in 2007. During my senior year, I received the NC Teaching Fellows scholarship to attend University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I decided I wanted to be a science teacher and I majored in biology and secondary education. I graduated from UNCC with high honors.

I have 9 years of teaching experience in middle and high schools. In previous years, I taught high school biology and human anatomy honors. I've been at MICS since 2014 and have been teaching 7th grade science. I enjoy teaching middle school the most!

I advise National Junior Honors Society with Mrs. Dalton and Tabletop Gaming clubs with Mrs. Chadwick. My goal as a teacher is to learn the best practices to help ALL students learn science and enjoy it! Science is best learned from hands-on experiences.

Besides teaching science, my other interests include spending time with my husband, AJ, family, and friends. My husband and I got married in the summer 2019 and my last name changed from Castro to Scales. Exercising, spending time outdoors, and watching movies are hobbies I enjoy the most. I love keeping up to date on current music, gaming, and the newest tech gadgets. I am ready for football season and the new school year!
