Questions about the TPI Program:
Will my child learn the same skills as students who are not in TPI?
YES! The general education staff and EL staff meet regularly to discuss learning goals and strategies for all students.
When will my student exit the TPI program?
Students who meet the Illinois state exit criteria will exit TPI and will not be required to participate in the annual ACCESS test. Students must have a composite score of 4.8 to exit the program.
Does my child have to participate in TPI?
Parents have the right to request that their child NOT receive language services from the ELL staff. To do this, parents should contact the Director of Student Services for a conference to discuss this request. Parents must submit a written letter.
Students who are withdrawn from ELL services must still participate in the annual ACCESS test, per Illinois state guidelines, until exit criteria is met.

How can parents become involved in the EL program?
Parents can join the Multilingual Parent Advisory Committee (MPAC), which consists of parents/guardians of students enrolled in the bilingual program, community members, EL staff, and EL administrator. The committee participates in planning, approving, and evaluating the bilingual program and developing programs for Spanish bilingual families. MPAC is required to meet a minimum of 4 times each year and follows the guidelines set by the Illinois School Code. (IL School Code 14C - 10)
