Tip 1
Multi-Syllabic Words
Introducing students to Multi-Syllabic Words (words with more than one syllable) can be very confusing!
The manual will tell you to use the white syllable frames for the entire class This is a very good visual. However, in the Wilson Program, the students are also given blank index cards so they can also tap the cards while the individual syllables are said.
Example: bathtub
Place two blank index cards in front of the student.
1. Have him/her touch the first card as he/she says "bath".
2. Next, the student touches the second card as he/she says "tub".
This can also be extended to spelling of multi-syllabic words.
After the student has touched the two cards and said each syllable:
3. He/she taps the first card again, repeating "bath". Then spells bath. "b - a - t - h"
4. He/she taps the second card, repeats "tub". Then spells tub. "t - u b"
Make sure that the student is only touching the cards with one hand, not using both!
