MOTTO
"We learn, we build, we teach."
WHO WE ARE
The Academy model is a three-year program, beginning in the 10th grade and continuing on through the 12th grade, that incorporates core academics and career technical education, business/community partnerships, work-based learning experiences, mentoring, and internships. Academy components include rigorous academics, a team of teachers common to all Academy students, field trips, leadership opportunities, and visits to college campuses and college fairs. Students can apply to the Academy in the spring of their freshman year.
Academy students take an "Education" elective course each year in the Academy. Students move in cohorts, only taking courses with other Academy students. (Other elective courses, P.E. courses, World Language courses, and AP/Honors courses may still be taken outside of the Academy schedule.) Academy students also participate in community-service projects, team-building events, work-based learning experiences, and community-building experiences.
Every Academy teacher is a member of the program because he/she wants to be. This means we are committed to the concept of the Academy and to each student’s success. We want each student to feel connected to school, academics, and the Academy itself. Participation in the program also means you are committed to your success and the success of the Academy!
THE EDUCATION ACADEMY CLASSROOM
An Education Academy classroom is a safe space where students:
1. Expand horizons by learning about other cultures, philosophies, and themselves
2. Build class and Academy bonds by sharing and listening to each other at every opportunity
3. Maintain a focus on growing – mentally, emotionally, socially
4. Commit to learning and leave behind the distractions that impede that process
5. Build trust with teachers, mentors, and peers that creates the support necessary to grow and graduate
6. Protect, respect, and learn about the differences that make us unique
7. Strive to do our very best and make our best better each day
8. Find support for the challenges we face, yet find the strength to overcome our obstacles and remain focused
9. Give and get the respect that each individual deserves, including staff and peers
10. Take chances that may take us out of our comfort zones, but build our character and Academy experiences
11. Communicate openly and honestly to avoid misunderstandings and assumptions and to build trust, respect, and rapport
12. Respect the professional learning space by leaving arguments, bitterness, laziness, and distractions outside the doors
13. Understand that hard work is an invaluable skill that has rewards for every part of life
14. Create lasting bonds that mean once Ed, always Ed
15. Do not allow setbacks to stop us from moving forward
16. Create and maintain focus towards life-long goals
17. We understand that we do not need to be perfect, we need to be our best
18. Recognize that students and staff are whole people, not just teachers and students
19. We know, accept, and embrace that we will always have the ability to be better
The Five Pillars of the Education Academy
The Five Pillars of the Education Academy are values that we want our students to learn, practice, understand, and demonstrate on a daily basis. We believe that if our students graduate with a solid grounding in these five values, they can be successful in anything they do. The Five Pillars are: Family, Academics, Accountability, Resilience, and Integrity.
