Back to School Letter

August 15, 2013

Dear Student,

I hope you have enjoyed your summer. I am looking forward to meeting you on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. These are some of the things you need to know about third grade.

This year you will be learning about many exciting things and doing lots of experiments and investigations. Some of the topics we will be exploring are nutrition, Mount Desert Island history, geology, our Solar System, weather, and stewardship of our ocean.

We will be having a snack break each morning. Please bring a small healthy snack for this time.

If you choose to buy breakfast, lunch or milk, the money should be brought to school on the first day of the week. The money needs to be in an envelope with your name, my name, and the amount of money written on the front of the envelope. Hot lunch is $2.40 a day or $12.00 a week. If you are bringing lunch you may purchase milk for $.30 a day or $1.50 a week. Breakfast is available for $1.25 a day.

Please bring the following supplies to school:

pencils (You will need to supply yourself with pencils all year long.)

erasers

3 glue sticks

crayons

a pair of scissors

a supply box for your desk [about 2”x9’’x4”]

a water bottle

1 deck of inexpensive playing cards

a white board marker and a clean sock to use as an eraser

a bag with the following coins in it:

6 quarters

10 dimes

10 nickels

10 pennies

You may find it convenient to have your own scotch tape, markers, and/or colored pencils. We use a lot of tissues during the year, so if you want to bring a box for our class supply, it will be most appreciated. You will not need to bring notebooks, trapper keepers, paper, or folders - we will supply those!

Please tell your parents that I will be at school Friday,

August 24, and would be glad schedule an appointment for that day if they and/or you would like to meet me before the school year starts. We can also pick a different day if it would work better for your folks. Please have them call my home, 288-4721, or email cchappell@mdirss.org to schedule a time.

All third grade classrooms are located at the far end of the Conners building hall. My classroom is second from the last on the right.

Our school day starts at 8:15. The first morning you may come directly into the building through the front doors and come on down to the classroom, or you may go to the playground and play until a teacher brings you in. When you arrive, we will begin to create a new learning community in our class. Together we will make this a great year!

Sincerely,

Ms. Chappell
