Dear Students and Parents,

In honor of Black History Month in February and Women’s History Month in March, students are asked to choose either an influential African American, or an influential woman (of any race). The person can be from any period in our history and must have had a positive impact on our lives today.

· The first step is to choose a person that you admire or would like to learn more about. Due Wednesday, February 8. If a student has not chosen a person by then, I will choose one for them. When choosing a person, I urge you to think outside the box. We usually have several Jackie Robinson’s and Barack Obama’s J

· The next step will be to research this person and complete a graphic organizer with important information on the person’s life. Due Monday, February 13. (Students will receive more information on this step.)

· The third step will be to put the information from the graphic organizer into paragraph form. Due Thursday, February 16.

· The following step will be to create a poster board with information on your person. (More information will be provided on this step.)

· The final step will be a Biography Day where students present what they have learned about the person they chose for their classmates and family. (Date is to be decided, most likely the last week in February.)

The above is simply a tentative schedule. Please do not rush and complete this assignment over the weekend. We will be working on this in class and at home. More information will be provided as we move along.

Sincerely,

Ms. Downey
