This pre-K3 project focuses on teachers and parents working together to learn from each other towards the common goal of increasing children’s opportunities to learn mathematics. This project thus builds on the well-established body of work around funds of knowledge (González, Moll, & Amanti, 2005) and the work done with parents and mathematics through our prior projects to develop and test an approach to parental engagement that not only engages the parents as learners and facilitators but also emphasizes the aspect of parents as intellectual resources (Civil & Andrade, 2003) where teachers and school personnel learn about the parents’ experiences with mathematics and learn how to build on these in their classroom teaching.
