Event List

One-Act Play: This is like a short stage production.  Students use props, costumes and make-up to present a play on a stage.  All lines must be memorized.  Time limit is 35 minutes and there is no limit to the number of students.

Readers Theatre: This is like performing a play without the costumes, props and make-up.  You will have scripts but it will practically be memorized.  You will perform in a larger room only using ladders, boxes, stools, etc.  Time limit is 25 minutes and there is a maximum of 15 students allowed.

Choral Reading:  This is a performance usually centered around a theme.  You will be able to use make-up, costumes and props.  Scripts are also used; however it will practically be memorized.  Choral reading really focuses on the blending of voices…not just one voice by itself all of the time.  Time limit is 15 minutes and there is a maximum of 15 students allowed.

Ensemble Acting:  This is like acting out a short play without any costumes, props or make-up.  You will only have a table and chairs to use and all lines will need to be memorized.  Time limit is 15 minutes and each ensemble can have 2 to 6 students.  Each school is allowed 3 ensembles.

Television News:  This is where a group of students put together and report news in front of a camera.  Each school can have two groups of up to 15.  We get to choose the format (it could be something like SportsCenter, E News, reporting during the Vietnam War, etc…)  In the newscast, we must include one or more commercials (two minutes maximum.) Our taped newscast is then taken to contest and presented.  The newscast cannot be over 10 minutes.

Radio Broadcasting:  This is similar to TV News where a group of students report the news only this time it is recorded on GarageBand.  The format is open and must include a commercial.  The newscast MUST fall between 5 and 6 minutes.  There is a maximum of 8 students in a radio broadcasting and each school is allowed 2.

Group Improvisation:  This is where a group of students enter the performance area and draw 3 situations.  They then have 2 minutes to develop a presentation around 1 of the situations.  Each group can have 2 to 5 students and each school can have 3 groups.

Musical Theatre:  This is where a group of students present parts of a Broadway show.  This will include speaking AND singing.  There will be dancing as well.  You will need to be able to sing in front of crowds.  Each school can have 3 groups and each group can have 2 to 6 students.  The time limit is 10 minutes.

Group Mime:  This is where a group of students perform without talking.  The production may involve music.  There is NO make-up.  Each school can have 3 groups and each group can have 2 to 6 students.  The time limit is 7 minutes.

Solo Mime:  This is just like group mime except you are alone.  Each school may have 3 solo mimes.  The time limit is 5 minutes.

Short Film:  This category includes writing a short script, filming it, and then using iMovie to give it sound, editing, and so much more.  A maximum of 15 students may be utilized and the time limit for the production is 5 minutes.  Two groups may be entered.
