Storytelling: You sit on a stool and tell a story. It is memorized and the time limit is 5 minutes. Facial expression and some gestures are involved.
Prose: You stand and recite a story using a script. Facial expression and a little gesturing are involved. The time limit is 6 minutes.
Poetry: You stand and recite poetry using a script. Facial expression and a little gesturing are involved. The time limit is 6 minutes.
Literary Program: This is a combination of prose and poetry centered around a theme. A script is used. Facial expression and a little gesturing are involved. The time limit is 8 minutes.
Acting: You act out a portion of a play or a monologue. Everything is memorized and you can use one chair. No props or costuming is allowed. The time limit is 8 minutes.
Public Address: You present a speech written by someone else. Facial expressions, some movement, and gesturing are involved. This is memorized and the time limit is 8 minutes.
Expository Address: You write and present an informative speech. Props, costumes, and visual aids can be used. Everything is memorized and the time limit is 6 minutes.
Reviewing: You write a review over a book, movie, musical, piece of art, etc... and present your speech. Visual aids can be used and everything is memorized. The time limit is 8 minutes.
Original Oratory: You write and present a speech that is designed to persuade or inspire. Everything is memorized and the time limit is 8 minutes.
Improvisation: You walk into the performance room and draw 2 situations and 3 characters. You then have 3 minutes to come up with a performance that combines 2 of the characters and 1 of the situations. You prepare and perform in front of the judge(s) and the time limit is 5 minutes.
Spontaneous Speaking: You study up on current events, sports, school topics, and more. You walk into the performance room and draw 3 topics. You then have 3 minutes to come up with a speech that takes a stand on 1 of the issues. The time limit of your speech is 5 minutes.
After Dinner Speaking: You write and present a speech that is designed to entertain a specific audience. Your speech should include wit and humor. Everything is memorized and the time limit is 5 minutes.
Radio News Announcing: You walk into the prep room and get your materials. You then have 30 minutes to put a presentation together that includes news, sports, weather, and a commercial. You then present in a room separate from the judge and audience. You will be given a news flash at some point in your presentation that will have to be included in your presentation. Your presentation must fall between 4 and 5 minutes.
Solo Musical Theatre: You perform a song. There is singing and acting involved. Everything is memorized and the time limit is 5 minutes.
