Dear Maple Lake High School Parents:
Free concussion management program
Maple Lake High School, in partnership with Courage Kenny Sports & Physical Therapy Center - Buffalo, is pleased to offer a concussion management program called ‘ImPACTTM’ for all student athletes in grades 7-12. ImPACTTM is a computer-based program that measures brain function in areas such as: attention span, working memory, sustained and selective attention time, non-verbal problem solving, and reaction time.
The ImPACTTM test is administered before athletes participate in a sport to get a baseline score. If a head injury occurs during the course of a sports season, the same test is repeated. The ‘before and after’ comparison assesses the degree of any brain injury or impairment and is used to help determine when it is safe for an athlete to return to playing their sport.
Baseline testing
Baseline testing for Maple Lake High School athletes is optional, free, and will not in any way affect team selection or your child’s participation. If your child sustains a concussion during the school year, post-injury testing will be available at the high school or at Courage Kenny Sports & Physical Therapy Center. There is no charge for post-injury testing, but your child may need to follow-up with a doctor, and you may have a charge depending on your insurance coverage. Baseline testing for Maple Lake athletes will begin____________. Baseline testing will be for any athlete that has not had a baseline test in the last year.
Test Days and Times: (in the high school computer lab)
Additional information about the ImPACTTM program and the testing schedule at Maple Lake High School will be available on the high school web site (www.maplelake.k12.mn.us) on the webpage for our Athletic Trainer, Dean Adams.
