Syllabus

In this class, both virtually and in person, we need to:

1. Treat everyone and everything with respect!

2. Try our best! It is completely fine to fail or stumble because that is how you learn.

3. Listen! You never know when you will learn something, whether it is about math, yourself or another person.

4. Be honest and trustworthy! These attributes will take you very far in life.

5. Be understanding! Everyone comes from a different place.

You should login to your Geometry Google Classroom everyday. New materials, videos and assignments will be posted on a daily basis. Lessons will be delivered through different mediums including Google Slides and EdPuzzles. Tests, quizzes and exit tickets will be digital. Times to ask for help are posted on the My Schedule Tab. Google Meets can happen with a group or individually. Keep up with the work and don't let it pile up.

Your semester grade will be based on your mastery of "Gotta Know" Geometry Standards. The Standards for 1st Semester are:

1. Transformations

2. Angle Relationships

3. Similarity

4. Similarity Proofs

5. Trigonometry

6. Congruence

• 1 Graph Paper Notebook - This will make life a lot easier because we graph a decent amount in the class

• 3 Ring Binder - This way you can print out notes or handout during virtual learning and also the notes and such when we are back in the classroom full time

• Pencils, Pencils, Pencils! Did I mention pencils? Mistakes happen and pencils allow you to erase and try again

• Computer

• Scientific Calculator (TI-30) - These can be purchased at most places for under $15 and is what we use in the classroom - Demos does have an option that you could use online as well which is found at https://www.desmos.com/scientific

85% of your grade is based on the above standards. Your understanding of these standards will be evaluated on a mid-chapter quiz and end of chapter test. Questions on these assessments will be broken down by standard. Students will be evaluated at least 3 times on each standard to show their learning over a longer period of time. All assessment questions will be graded on the 4 point scale below.

15% of your grade is on Lesson Participation and Homework. It is also graded on the 4 point scale below.

Some lessons will be delivered via video (EdPuzzle) and others will be delivered via interactive Google Slides. Daily participation with the lessons is part of your grade. I will leave comments, you read them and then ask more questions. If you are attending school, ask the math teacher visiting your homeroom for help. If you are all virtual, attend scheduled Group Google Meet times or Schedule an individual Google Meet. My only goal is to help you learn Geometry and have fun while doing it.

Homework will be due after the day it is assigned to keep students on track with their Geometry work. Homework can include worksheets, interactive Google Slides, exit tickets, videos, etc. If homework is turned in late, this will be noted in Infinite Campus. Homework is NOT graded on completion. You must ALWAYS show your work.

If you need to correct your homework or work was not shown, no grade will be given in Classroom and it will be marked as missing in Infinite Campus, and the assignment will be returned to you via Google Classroom with correction comments. You may fix things, but no score will be given until corrections are made. If you are attending school, ask the math teacher visiting your homeroom for help. If you are all virtual, attend scheduled Google Meet times or Schedule an Individual Google Meet.

Last school year, we all learned a lot about how to use technology to showcase learning. If a worksheet is assigned, you have many options for turning the work into Google Classroom. Please do not email your work. The following are all acceptable ways of showing your learning.

• If you have a printer at home, you may print the worksheet, complete it, take a picture, and submit to Google Classroom.

• If you don't have a printer at home, you can NUMBER and complete the work NEATLY, in a notebook (graph paper would be best), take a picture, and submit to Google Classroom.

• If the homework is digital (ex. Google Slides) you can type your answers directly onto each slide by creating a text box, and showing as much work as you can. Submit to Google Classroom. You can also add pictures of your work to the slides.

All of this can be made easier by installing as many of the Google Apps (Classroom, Forms, Drive, Slides) on your phone as possible. This makes taking a picture of work and uploading it much easier.

Your 1st quarter grade will be a snap shot of where you are in your understanding of the 6 standards above. When we begin 2nd quarter, your grade does not start from scratch. Whatever your grade was 1st quarter is where your grade will start at the beginning of 2nd quarter. Your quarter grades for 1st and 2nd Quarter are NOT AVERAGED 50%/50% at the end of the semester to get your semester grade.

For example, if a student earns a C+ at the end of 1st quarter, that student will begin 2nd quarter with a C+. If the student does not do their work and ends 2nd quarter with an F, the semester grade will be an F. The two grades of a C+ and F for the two quarters will not average to a D for the semester.

Please let me know if you have any questions on this grading system so that no one is surprised come end of semester.

Unfortunately, virtual learning has made it more tempting for students to cheat on classwork. I will remind you that you are only cheating yourself. To deter students from sharing answers, work will ALWAYS need to be shown to receive credit and explanations should be in your own words. Any student caught cheating or giving answers to others on ANY work related to the class will receive a zero on the assignment/test. I will decide on a case by case basis if the student will be allowed a retake opportunity.
