Archives of the Institute of Archaeology, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Archives of the Institute of Archaeology of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem hold unique collections of documents and photographs that record the history of Israeli archaeology from the early 20th century.

The archive holds several major collections:

  • The scientific and administrative archives of the Institute of Archaeology;

  • Archive of Israel Exploration Society (IES), from its foundation in the early 1920s till 1962;

  • Personal archive of Moshe Stekelis, the first professor of prehistory at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem;

  • Slides collection;

  • Photographs of the Institute excavations (1936-present).
