What You Will Learn in This Course
Students will learn concepts, strategies, and models to help improve communication skills. This course encompasses topics such as cultural diversity, critical thinking, ethical communication, listening skills, communicating in managerial and leadership roles, managing conflicts, communicating in teams and groups, technology in communication, and public presentations. Students will understand the importance of effective communication in the workplace.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
1. Identify the major challenges the information age presents to business communication.
2. Demonstrate communication competence by choosing the proper message, form of exchange, and channel.
3. Identify problems caused by ineffective listening and the importance of verbal and nonverbal communication to businesses.
4. Illustrate techniques of public speaking to deliver persuasive messages and presentations.
5. Apply the fundamentals of strategic communication in business professions.
The Student Learning Outcomes listed above are those required actions that a student who successfully completes the course must be able to perform or exhibit. Each student will be assessed by the successful completion of homework assignments and activities in the online course environment.

The e-textbook and training and assessment tools will be linked through our Canvas course. You will have access to a free trial and can purchase the e-book package via the Canvas course. If you are taking multiple classes using Cengage textbooks, you may want to consider purchasing Cengage Unlimited. You will need to purchase the subscription that includes the MindTap learning platform.
Access to a computer with an internet connection to use Canvas to access our web-based assignments.
Software Discounts for Students
CCSF is providing Microsoft Office to every student free of charge. This means the latest version of Microsoft’s Office productivity suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, and Access.
