Hi Everyone!
My name is Brigette Stevenson and I'm going to be your 4th grade teacher! I have taught elementary and middle school grades for twelve years, and am excited to start my thirteenth year with all of you. I first got my start in Outdoor Education. I taught the natural sciences and history of California. I went to my old Outdoor School this last spring to see how their new Farm School is coming along. I helped feed the goats, chicks, pigs, and got to see how the school’s farm dogs grew into giants!
I went to California State University, Channel Islands for my multiple subject teacher credential. I also have a Single Subject credential in English. I attended CSUCI for my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. My thesis explored the social and emotional benefits of experiential education (learning by doing things!). I attended California Lutheran University for my undergraduate degree in English. I've always loved creative writing. I've written a few plays, some stories, and some very bad poems. A few of my written works are even published, and I am a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association. I was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2018 and got to attend the Tin House Publishing Workshop that same summer.
I live in Thousand Oaks with my pug Zuzu (who is not pleased summer is over, but she will just have to deal). My love of literature, art, science and the outdoors runs deep. I can’t wait to meet all of you and learn what you love, too!
I wish everyone the best of luck this year, and can’t wait to get started,
-Ms. Stevenson
