Sociology
Introduction
Sociology provides insights into analyses of the functions of society and the development of societal norms. Course participants examine the cultural forces that impact childhood development, adolescence, marriage, divorce, families, and prejudice. The main focus of this course is to assist students in reaching new understandings about society through their consideration of the following fundamental questions: How is society organized and what are the relationships among groups? What changes take place throughout our lives from childhood to adulthood? How do the social, political, and economic conditions that people face shape our societal norms? Debate and discussion provides the primary means by which students acquire and measure their new understanding of individuals in society.
