Film and History
Introduction
Film and History is a college preparatory Social Studies elective course that examines American
culture and society through film. We will critically analyze how American cultural and social
conflicts are portrayed through film and how these films influence American society and our
view of the past. By watching, discussing and writing about these films, we will exam how
motion pictures create a window into American society. Students will learn to examine films
critically and to critique them as they would any other document. This course will cover the
period of time from the colonial period through the war on terror.
