As you will see, below is a breakdown of our day in the Life Skills Classroom. Each Section is a period, with the addition of lunch. The “subjects” may change order from day to day, but the students will see the changes with the helpful visual schedule in the front of the room.
Current Events: Each student will be making flyers for administration with weather, date, sports news, and any important news events
Daily Living Skills: Each student will rotate within the classroom to all of the different stations (washing dishes, making bed, hang clothes, etc.)
Functional Math: Each student will work on functional math skills. This will include money math, time, skip counting, etc.
Functional Social Studies/Science: These two subjects will be more for building common knowledge, the students will be working on labeling a map, becoming familiar with community events. They will also be working on measurements, estimating distances, describing and reading temperature.
Reading for information: Each student will work on reading passages and answering questions
Social Skills: The class will work on social skills by participating in speech groups, particularly during lunch, play games together, and engage in daily discussions (any challenges of the day, weekend plans, etc.)
Technology: Each student will be working on their own computers to become familiar with functional programs. This will include: utilizing the search engine, formatting a document, send and receive emails, etc.
Community Based Instruction: Each student will be job sampling. The class as a whole will be going out for community based instruction. These trips will include shopping, going out to eat, and meeting with other students.
