About Mr. Carr

Mr. Carr began his teaching career in 1998.  He has spent 23 of his 26 years teaching 8th grade American History at Summit Lakes Middle School.  Mr. Carr received both his Bachelor's of Science in Education (1997) and his Master's of Science in Curriculum & Instruction (2001) from the University of Kansas.  Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk!  He also has 45 post-graduate hours beyond his Master's and continues to improve his teaching and learning through professional development training.

In 2006, Mr. Carr was a Lee’s Summit R-7 Excellence in Teaching Award winner and a Teacher of the Year Finalist.  He was also a Teacher of the Year nominee in 2012, 2015, 2021, 2022, and 2024.  Mr. Carr coached middle school basketball, football, and track & field for 18 years before taking a break to spend more time with his family and coach his own daughters in club basketball (Go Summit Swish!).  He  signed on to be an Assistant Cross Country Coach starting in 2017 and became the Head Girls Cross Country Coach in 2022.  His 2023 girls XC team became Missouri Middle School State Champions!

In his spare time, Coach Carr enjoys playing golf, watching sports, reading mystery or historical fiction novels, and watching movies with his family.  He and his family are HUGE Star Wars and Marvel fans!  His wife, Becky, is a 3rd grade teacher at Woodland Elementary in Lee’s Summit.  Mr. and Mrs. Carr have two awesome daughters, Hadley and Delaney, and a Yorkie-Poo named Molly.
