Below are several speech-language web sites that you can use at home to reinforce or improve your child’s oral communication skills. I’ve broken them down in to speech (articulation), language, and reading/miscellaneous categories (I’ve found that the ability to use speech sounds correctly and reading skills go hand in hand for a lot of my students). I’ve also included a few games I’ve created during my tenure at the Grove. Enjoy!

Articulation and Phonology

Phonetics: The Sounds of American English A wonderful site that offers a visual reference to the articulators (the parts of your body that deal with creating sounds) as well as animated and step-by-step directions that show how sounds are made while pronouncing the chosen sound.

Speechers Class A great site that features numerous games for a host of sounds and blends.

Sound Blender Combine word beginnings and endings.

Speech Therapy Activities Various activities for speech and language.

Apraxia-KIDS Information about apraxia.

Wordle This site creates ‘word clouds’ from text that you provide. Useful for creating word lists targeting certain sounds or of a certain word type, Wordle is both artistic and functional! 

Language

Knock Knock Jokes Knock knock jokes are a great way to introduce humor into a child’s pragmatic skills.

Crazy Libs A great collection of stories that reinforces the proper usage of verbs, nouns, adjectives, etc. in a fun manner.

Grammar Crackers Grammar-based language games. A lot of games to browse!

Have Fun This site offers a lot of language-based games and links to other speech and language sites.

World of Words Another site that features many language-based games.

Basic Concepts Flashcards Spatial concepts flashcards.

American Speech-Language Hearing Association Resources and information about speech and language disabilities.

The Stuttering Foundation Resources and information about stuttering.

Autism Society of America A general site regarding Autism.

Voice Disorders Wake Forest’s Center for Voice Disorders website. It provides great information on various voice disorders.

Scholastic Online Activities A general academics site full of fun games and activities.

Dolch Word Lists This site offers Dolch Basic Sight Vocabulary Word Lists for Preschool through Third grade as well as other materials.
