About Me

Hello and welcome to my personal page. I have a lot of interests listed here and there on this page, so please take your time and enjoy!

My name is Ted Conn, but my students know me simply as Mr. Conn. I am originally from the Joplin, MO area, where a majority of my family still resides. I attended Webb City High School, which is well known for its football program.

I received my B.A. in Mass Media Communication from Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) in 1993 and worked in the Joplin area until 1998. At that point I moved to Lawrence, KS and attended the University of Kansas. I received my M.A. in Speech-Language Disorders in 2002.

After I graduated, I was hired by the Lee’s Summit school district as a Speech-Language Pathologist. It has been an incredible experience for me on both a professional and personal level. I’ve met many great families, children and coworkers during my time in the school district.

I’ve had many hobbies over the years. I’ve been an avid comic book collector, played semi-professional paintball, and ‘fought’ at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. Currently, my interests lay in reading various books and watching a few select TV shows.

Most recently I’ve taken an interest in historical and fictional wargaming. "What’s that?" you ask. Well, it’s a bit like a board game such as Risk or Stratego and a little like playing Army Men. You have rules, figures (miniatures that are usually hand-painted), and either store-bought or hand-made terrain. Using the rules, your army ‘battles’ your opponent’s army until one side attains victory. It sounds much drier and complex than it truly is. In actuality, it brings together several of the things I love: History, imagination, art, a mental challenge, and healthy competition. To get a better idea of what I’m talking about, visit my ‘Links’ page. There you’ll find several wargaming sites that deal with not only gaming in general, but also how students can get involved. Thanks to my friend and fellow Lee’s Summit teacher Duane Fleck, Lee’s Summit High School now has a strategic gaming club that helps promote gaming to children of many ages (students can even letter in gaming!).

I am also an avid sports fan. My favorite teams are the LA Rams, the Montreal Canadiens, the Kansas Jayhawks, and peripherally the Kansas City Royals and the Webb City Cardinals. My love for sports has carried over into being involved in coaching middle school football and track as well as playing college and professional fantasy football, where I’ve participated in various leagues for over two decades. Maybe this year will see my team(s) once again taking the trophy!

There are many other things I take an interest in, but not nearly enough time to write about them! Again, please visit my ‘Links’ page and see for yourself some of the things that preoccupy my time!
