This year the theme for the IHL Youth Action Campaign is: Preservation of Cultural Property
Objects and places of cultural or natural value are not only important for a certain country or people, but they are important to all of us because they belong to all of humanity. Because of this, agreements and treaties have been put in effect to protect places and objects of great cultural or natural value. These agreements include:
Convention (IV) relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War. Geneva, 12 August 1949.
Protocol Additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, and relating to the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts (Protocol I), 8 June 1977.
CONVENTION FOR THE PROTECTION OF CULTURAL PROPERTY IN THE EVENT OF ARMED CONFLICT WITH REGULATIONS FOR THE EXECUTION OF THE CONVENTION, The Hague, 14 May 1954
UNESCO Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, November 1972
“A concerted effort to preserve our heritage is a vital link to our cultural, educational, aesthetic, inspirational and economic legacies – all of the things that quite literally make us who we are.” - Steve Berry (Author)
