Information for Parents Regarding Health Screenings

In accordance with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71 Section 57, school nurses complete health screenings every year. The breakdown is as follows:

Grade 6 Scoliosis

Grade 7 Scoliosis, Vision, Hearing, BMI and Sbirt (Screening, brief intervention, referral, treatment)

Grade 8 Scoliosis

You will be notified in writing if the nurse recommends follow up with a health care provider after the screening is done..

If you do not want your child to participate in the BMI screening please notify the nurse in writing. If you have previously done this in elementary school, you do not need to submit another note.

If you do not wish your child to participate in the scoliosis screening, you must notify the nurse in writing and present a note signed by the health care provider stating when the scoliosis exam has been done and the results.

NOTE: Here at Williams, the scoliosis screening is usually completed within the first two weeks of school.
