SCHOLARSHIPS

LONE STAR GATOR CLUB® SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

One of our goals is to support the academic goals of students from Central Texas attending the University of Florida. We do this each year by funding partial 1-year scholarships.

Club fundraising in the past decade was so successful that the we were able to open an endowed scholarship through the University of Florida Foundation, which we named in honor of late longtime Lone Star Gator Club member and officer, Brad Bradford. We supplement the endowment each year through local efforts like our Pledge For Points fundraiser and raffles.

APPLY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP

UF provides the club with a list of the accepted students every spring. We contact them directly with details on how to apply.

This year, the Lone Star Gator Club® provided scholarships of $1500 each to three deserving students.

2021-2022 SCHOLARS

PAUL CAMARDO

Year: Junior

Major: Information Systems

Accomplishments:

Operations Intern - PLS Logistics; Resident Assistant; Assistant Director of Housing Affairs - Student Government; President - Delta Sigma Phi; Dance Marathon Dancer/Fundraiser

A NOTE FROM PAUL:

Hello LSGC,

This past year has been yet another extremely rewarding experience that I am very thankful to have had.

In the spring, I continued on in my combined degree program, taking 8 credits of masters classes. These classes have taught me a lot and given me real skills that I surely will use in my career; among these are @RISK, Solver, and R. Many of these classes have assisted me in narrowing down my fields of interest and allowed me to focus on more niche opportunities in the world of Supply Chain.

Among extracurriculars, Spring was technically my first semester as President of my fraternity. Being able to network with other presidents both within IFC and our national organization has grown me to better understand and appreciate what it means to be a part of the greek community. While serving in this role and doing what needs to be done to move the chapter forward, I also led a multi-chapter philanthropic effort to raise funds for the children in Ukraine. I know my future self would regret not utilizing my position to do good, so I am always keeping an eye out for how to impact the lives of others while I have this platform.

Back in February, I was promoted from Assistant Director to Cabinet Director of Housing Affairs within SG. Housing has given me a space for the last two years to impact the lives of other out-of-state students and I have always had the desire to get involved with Housing at a Student Government level. This position will allow me to work closely with the Student Body Vice President in assuring that all students are knowledgeable about student housing and have all the resources they need to find a home away from home that fits their needs.

Finally, back in March, I was tapped into Florida Blue Key as a Spring 2022 inductee. I am honored to have received such a distinction alongside a number of incredible leaders on campus. I hope to soon learn from them to further myself as a leader and make a lot of connections within the organization.

As always, I thank you all for helping me attend UF and paving the way for me to make the most of my time here. I have created so many unforgettable memories and look forward to the next 3 semesters in the Swamp!

Go Gators,

Paul Camardo

ISABELLA MILAM

Year: Freshman

Major: Health Education and Behavior

Accomplishments:

Preprofessional Service Organization (PSO); Chi Omega Sorority; UF Women's Lacrosse Club; High School Lacrosse Captain; AP Scholar with Distinction; National Charity League; National Honor Society; Science National Honor Society; La Sociedad Honoridad Hispánica; Fellowship of Christian Athletes

A NOTE FROM ISABELLA:

Spring semester has flown by faster than I could ever imagine, and I’m faced with the end of Freshman year. I was fortunate to make the UF Women’s Club Lacrosse team and travel to Tallahassee, Miami, Virginia, Georgia, and Orlando to compete against other college teams for a championship title. We ended up making it to the championship game for our region and lost to Georgia 8-6.

The UF Women’s Club Lacrosse team hasn’t made it this far since 2014, putting Florida back on the map. We earned the rank #5 in the whole nation and should receive a bid to the national tournament in Austin, Texas at the Round Rock Sports Complex (such a coincidence!).

Outside of lacrosse, I am still an active member in my Sorority in Chi Omega, earning money for Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Medigators, where I have virtual shadowed doctors for a total of 40 hours this semester. I am planning on taking a few online summer classes through UF while interning and medically scribing for Dr. Carl Bischoff, a urologist in Austin who went to med school at the University of Florida.

I’ve enjoyed touring High School seniors who are interested in the University of Florida and showing them all the amazing aspects of this new place I call home.

JOE BAKER

Year: Freshman

Major: Journalism and Marketing

Accomplishments:

Varsity Gold Academic All District (x3); Community project volunteer in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands; Volunteer through Good Apple, Maroon Mentor, and A Little Help.

A NOTE FROM JOE:

I have had a great time at UF so far. I have really enjoyed everything that it has to offer and my first semester as a Gator has been a positive experience. So far I'm doing well in all of my classes and I've enjoyed taking them.

I came into UF pursuing a journalism major, but this semester I've decided to try and dual-major and added marketing as well. I'm also applying for internships and getting involved on campus, so I'd say that I've had a fun, eventful, and busy first semester.

I really appreciate the scholarship, as it has helped pay for my classes, which is a big help. I can't wait for my second semester as a Gator and I'm very thankful for this scholarship and how it has helped me. Go Gators!

Sincerely,

Joseph
