Ceramics 1-3

Ceramics I is a year long course which introduces the student to the variety of ceramic vessel and sculptural formation techniques.Some of the ceramic techniques covered will be wedging, pinch pot formation, coil formation and application, slab formation and construction, clay attachment, clay sculpture, and glaze application. Ceramics II & III will continue to cover previously learned and applied techniques on a more advanced level. In Ceramics II the student will be introduced to the wheel and learn how to correctly use this tool to continue their ceramic education and growth.My criteria for evaluation will be based on demonstration of their personal artistic growth through classroom participation and artistic assignments. At the end of each trimester a portfolio review will occur.This year we will be exploring clay in several different ways and incorporating many different media into some of the Ceramic creations. Some of these media will be glass, shellac, copper mesh, organic material and transferred imagery. The following are some of the projects that the students will be creating throughout the year. This list is subject to change at any time based on the needs of the individual student as well as the class itself.
