Office of Curriculum and Instruction

The Logan-Hocking School District is committed to providing an up-to-date, engaging, and challenging curriculum that meets the needs of all students. Teams of teachers and administrators meet throughout the year, studying data and new initiatives, enabling our students to meet the ongoing educational demands of the 21st century. Data is reviewed and decisions are made that helps eliminate achievement gaps as well as raises the bar for those needing a more demanding curriculum. A wide set of new initiatives guide our instruction as well. These include, but are not limited to Formative Instructional Practices (FIP)the Third Grade Guarantee, the National Common Core standards, Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA) and Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) as well as the upcoming (2015) PARCC assessments.

The National Common Core curriculum has been adopted by the state of Ohio, in the areas of Mathematics and Language Arts. Currently, teachers in grades K-4 are instructing using these new standards. During the 2013-2014 school year, all students, grades Pre-K-12th grade will receive education based on the common core. Science and social studies standards were developed by the state of Ohio and are in place as well.

The district has a FIP team as well as a District Leadership Team (DLT), that meets regularly to discuss current and upcoming curriculum and testing issues and concerns. These teams are vital in sharing with the entire district staff all curriculum issues that affect our teachers and students.

The Logan-Hocking School District has been deemed by the Ohio Department Education as an “Excellent” district. During the 2011-2012 school year, four out of seven schools were chosen by ODE as School of Promise, including Central, Chieftain, Hocking Hills and Union Furnace Elementaries.
