Mrs. Amorteguy - 2025/2026
Dear Parents in Mrs. Amorteguy’s Kindergarten Class:
Welcome to the world of Kindergarten. I promise this will be a wonderful year for your child; full of learning, growing and fun.
First, let me introduce myself. I have worked in education in some capacity all my life. I have spent 27 years at the Kindergarten level and 3 years at the 1st grade level. I have also taught 6th grade, 9th grade and was a Vice Principal for 7 years.
In this book you will find helpful information for the year. Keep in handy and refer to it if you have questions. Do not hesitate to email me lisa.amorteguy@lfcsinc.org or phone the school if you have any questions throughout the year.
Now let me explain a little about my class:
Arrival andP ick-up
AM Kindergarten starts at 8:00am and is finished at 11:20am Monday-Thursday. Children may be dropped off at school no earlier than 7:30 AM. All students will be dropped off at the West end of the building. You may also park and walk your child to the playground to the lineup area.
AM Pick-Up Mon-Thurs: You will pick up your child every day at the gate by the playground. Please park and meet us at the gate. AM students will be picked up at 11:20. Your child may stay for lunch if they want. Lunch is from 11:20-11:40. You will need to pick up your child no later than 11:40 if they stay for lunch. Students going to day care will be picked up then by the day card teacher.
Fridays: All students arrive at school by 8:00 and go to the playground. I will meet them there at 8:00. They may be dropped off as early as 7:30. All students will be picked up on Fridays out front by the main glass doors at 11:30. Drive through the pick-up line and I will escort them to the car.
If someone different than you will be picking up your child on any day please contact me, or the office or write a note and let me know so I will know they are allowed to be released to someone else.
Lunch and Snack
School Lunches: Students can eat lunch at school starting September 2nd. Lunch is 11:20-11:40. If they are staying for lunch they will need to be picked up no later than 11:40 from the lunch room on the playground.
Snack Children need to bring a small snack that is eaten just after recess each day. Please send nutritious snacks that can be easily opened and eaten with fingers. Students will need a water bottle each day. Please send only water in the bottle, when spills occur water is easier to clean up. Please write your child’s name on the bottle and their lunch bag.
Folders and Backpacks
Each child will need to have a sturdy large folder to keep their daily assignments in.. I will collect these folders every Friday and pass them back out on Monday. In the folders will be the Weekly Parent Communication Letter and a homework packet. Please have your child bring a backpack each day to school and have their folder in their backpack. Backpacks must be large enough to hold the folder. Remembering their backpack each day is good practice and often notes come from the office during the week and need to get home. The folders are a great way to make sure you receive the information you need. The homework packet has a number of assignments for the week. The first few weeks there will be a half sheet homework packet in your child’s folder.
Homework
Reading: Along with completing the homework packed in your child’s folder, it is critical that you read each evening with your child. Research indicates that students who read each day will be in the top of their class. Make it a family trip to go to the public library each week and check out books for you to read to your child. There will be a Reading Log in your child’s folder when homework starts.
Sharing: Each trimester your child will be bringing home the “Share Bag”. When they do there will be an instruction card in the bag as to what your child needs to bring to school to share. Please try to return the bag the next day.
Behavior
Classroom Rewards: I like to recognize good behavior in class. We have sticker charts and good behavior is rewarded with stickers. When the chart is completed they may go to the class treasure chest. You may hear your child refer to “the alligator carpet” or our “time out” spot. On occasion students may need to take some “time out” and if behavior issues arise that affect your child’s success in class I will contact you. You are always welcome to email me or phone me with any concerns or questions you may have.
Uniforms and Attendance
Please send your child to school each day in their uniform. All students will need to have a red logo LFCS shirt for all field trips. Also, outerwear is plain navy blue only.
Please make sure your child’s name is written in permanent ink on their jackets, lunch boxes, backpacks etc. They have a hook in class to put their things on.
Half Days: Every Friday is a half. The school day is 8:00-11:20. PM Kindergarteners come to class in the mornings on those days. Friday is our day to go to the Library and have PE as well as classroom instruction. We have two additional teachers with us on Friday.
Vacations: If you are planning a vacation during school please let the office know ahead of time and I can write up an Independent Study contract. That way your child will receive credit for the days they miss.
Sign Language
Sign Language: As we learn the alphabet your child will also learn each letter in American Sign Language. They will also learn a few other communication skills in Sign as well.
Library
Each Friday your child will have opportunity to go to the school library and check out a book. They will have a plastic draw string bag to keep their book in. Please keep the book in this bag and in their backpack so it does not get lost or damaged. Lost or damaged books will need to be paid for. All library books must be turned in on Thursday in order to check out a new book on the following Friday. This will begin in a few weeks. You will find a book check out permission slip in your child’s backpack. Please return that as soon as possible.
Birthday’s
Birthday’s: According to LFCS’ Birthday policy, Birthday’s will be celebrated once during the month for all the birthdays that month. I will be bringing in special themed treat for the celebration. This is my special way to say “Happy Birthday” to my students. I will make sure to let you know when we are celebrating your child’s bday and how you can be involved. Birthdays are celebrated the first Friday of the month unless something special is happening on that Friday.
Parents
Parent Volunteers: I will be looking for parent help this year for a number of activities throughout the year. A sign up sheet is attached to this packet. I will then assign parents to specific responsibilities in the next few weeks after receiving these sign-up sheets.
Learning Style Survey: To better know how your child learns please fill out the attached Learning Style Profile and return it to me as soon as possible.
If you have any questions please let me know and feel free to contact me anytime during the school year. You can call the school, write me a note, or email me @ lisa.amorteguy@lfcsinc.org. I will post our weekly letter each week on my web-site and email it to you if you give me your email address on the attached parent info sheet.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year with your child, Mrs. Amorteguy
