Welcome to theWonderful

World of Kindergarten

Mrs. Amorteguy’s Class

2022/2023

Welcome to the world of Kindergarten. This promises to be an exciting year for you and your child. I promise this will be a wonderful year for your child; full of learning, growing and fun.

First, let me introduce myself. I have worked in education in some capacity all my life. I have spent 24 years at the Kindergarten level and 3 years at the 1st grade level. I have also taught 6th grade, 9th grade and was a Vice Principal for 7 years.

In this book you will find helpful information for the year. Keep in handy and refer to it if you have questions. Do not hesitate to email me lisa.amorteguy@lfcsinc.org or phone the school if you have any questions throughout the year.

Lunch and Snack

School Lunches: Student’s will not be eating lunch at school. A school lunch will be sent home at the end of the day for each child. Students in our afternoon day care program and students who go to Language Support will eat lunch at school when those programs begin.

Snack and Backpacks: Children need to bring a snack that is eaten just after recess each day. Please send nutritious snacks that can be easily opened and eaten with fingers. Students will need a water bottle each day. Please send only water in the bottle, when spills occur water is easier to clean up. Please write your child’s name on the bottle and their lunch bag. Each student should bring a backpack to school each day. Each student needs a folder for important papers and homework. I will be collected on Friday and returned on Monday.

Arrival Pick-up and Fridays

AM Kindergarten at 8:00am and is finished at 11:20am Monday-Thursday. Children may be dropped off at school no earlier than 7:30 AM. All students will be dropped off at the West end of the building. You may also park and walk your child to the playground to the lineup area.

Pick-Up Mon-Thurs: You will pick up your child every day at the gate by the playground. You will drive through the parking lot and we will escort your child to the car. You will not need to park and get out of your car. AM students will be picked up at 11:20

Fridays: Students arrive at school as they do Monday-Thursday. They will be picked up out front by the main glass doors at 11:30.

If someone different than you will be picking up your child on any day please contact me, or the office or write a note and let me know so I will know they are allowed to be released to someone else.

Reading & Birthday’s & Behavior

Classroom Rewards: I like to recognize good behavior in class. We have sticker charts and good behavior is rewarded with stickers. When the chart is completed they may go to the class treasure chest. You may hear your child refer to “the alligator carpet” or our “time out” spot. On occasion students may need to take some “time out” and if behavior issues arise that affect your child’s success in class I will contact you. You are always welcome to email me or phone me with any concerns or questions you may have.

Reading: It is critical that you read each evening with your child. Research indicates that students who read each day will be in the top of their class. Make it a family trip to go to the public library each week and check out books for you to read to your child. There are many online resources that read books to your child. You may use those as well.

Birthday’s: Celebrating Birthdays at school is a fun event. LFCS policy is to celebrate b’days once a month for the b’days that month. I like to do something special for the students in class and have special theme cupcakes to celebrate. I will let you know when this occurs for your child.

Uniforms & Attendance & Library & Parents

Supplies: Please bring the supplies listed on the supply sheet on their first day of school. All supplies are shared except headphones. Please put your child’s name on their headphones.

Uniforms Please send your child to school each day in their uniform. All students will need to have a red logo LFCS shirt for all field trips. Also, outerwear is plain navy blue only.

Please make sure your child’s name is written in permanent ink on their jackets, water bottles, pencil boxes etc. They have a hook in class for their personal things.

Vacations: If you are planning a vacation during school please let the office know ahead of time and I can write up an Independent Study contract. That way your child will receive credit for the days they miss.

Parent Volunteers: We welcome parents help in our classroom as well as at home and in various other ways. I will send home a list of ways for you to help with our class this year. Please indicate how you would like to help and return the form to me.

I am looking forward to a great year with your child and you. Thank you for being part of LFCS.
