Parents,
This is our last week before our October Break. It has been such a wonderful few months getting to know my students. I really enjoy my time with them and they are learning so much. Our break will be a much needed time of relaxing and getting ready for what is next in the world of Kindergarten.
Weekly Announcements:
Pumpkin Patch: October, Friday the 24th, we will have our Pumpkin Patch Day. We will be doing fun pumpkin activities in PE and the Library and in our classrooms. The day will end with a treat on the playground and hanging out in our Pumpkin Patch. We created a Pumpkin Patch on the playground and are asking students to bring a pumpkin to add to our patch. Pumpkins need to be big enough to decorate but small enough for your student to carry on their own. On the last day we will be decorating the pumpkin and taking it home. Students may bring pumpkins starting Monday October 20th. Please put their name on the pumpkin near the stem, they will need to find it on Friday. Also on that Friday students can dress like a farmer or cowboy/girl, jeans, plaid shirts, bandanas, cowboy hats, cowboy boots, pigtails, braids etc. It is always a fun day. We are hoping for some cooler weather but October in San Diego is so unpredictable. Parents are welcome to join us for the day. My homeroom moms will be contacting you with how you can help with the day.
If you are able to donate an extra pumpkin for a student who might not be able to bring one that is appreciated. Just let me know you have an extra.
Veteran's Day Celebration As is the tradition at LFCS we celebrate America in big ways, so for Veteran's Day we will have a big celebration at school Monday November 10th. We will have a parade and an assembly where we will honor those who have or are serving in our military. We will have an assembly that day at 8:30 and then the parade will follow after the assembly. Parents are welcome to come participate and I encourage you all to come. If you have or are currently serving in the military or have a relative that has please let me know, my class will be making cards for those men and women. Students can come dressed in anything red, white, and blue that day. It is a great day of celebration.
Library books: Return library books in their bags on Thursday so students can check out another on Friday.
Folders: Don't forget to read each evening along with doing homework. Make sure to spread the homework out throughout the week and not sit and do the whole packet in one evening. It is good practice to do some and then go back to it the next day. It helps keep what they are learning fresh in their mind and helps review.
Additional Readers for your child to read are posted here:

Character Corner for October:
Failure Leads to Success
Question of the Week:
In October we will be talking about how Failure Leads to Success and how that helps us have Courage, Hope and Grit. In Kindergarten we like to say "I can do it if I try again". Students who learn to do things that are hard learn much more than the task they completed. They learn they can do things they thought they couldn't and they gain confidence. This is a skill that will help them as they move through school and into adulthood.
