AP Literature & Composition
Get ready! We're going to have a lot of fun this year, and it starts now! In addition to reading The Martian Chronicles, you will be reading a primer on literary discussion and analysis that is AWESOME. It's called How to Read Literature Like a Professor. I have included a copy of the text here, but feel free to buy a copy of it yourself! It is a fantastic resource. Alongside reading this text, you will be completing a series of journal entries which need to be turned in on the first day of school, as well as the work on Lord of the Flies. Above you will find the links for Lord of the Flies, and here is a link for How to Read Literature Like a Professor.
DUE DAY 1:
We will also be taking a full AP Literature & Composition Exam over the first week of class together.
Please note: How to Read Literature Like a Professor is a college-level book that candidly discusses sex and sexuality in literature. I have not assigned direct work for either of those chapters. However, if you find a different PDF online of this text, or if you buy it from Amazon or a bookstore, you will receive a copy that includes the chapters about sex. The discussion is not gratuitous, and is entirely for an academic purpose, but I can understand if parents would prefer that their children not read those chapters. Accordingly, I have attached on this page a copy of How to Read Literature Like a Professor that excludes the content of those chapters.
