Physical Education: Excused Absences
Medical Excuses
1. Extended Medical Excuse (more than three consecutive class periods)
A note from a physician is required stating the reason and expected length of excuse. This excuse will be forwarded to the school nurse for inclusion in the student health record.
Extended medical excuses beyond 75% of the scheduled Physical Education classes each quarter will result in an X on the student’s report card with no credit granted. Classes may be made up as indicated in the Department Make-up Policy.
A student medically excused for more than a year must pass one physical education class for each of the remaining quarters in which he or she is physically able to participate.
2. Students with long-term injury/illness should consult with their individual PE Teacher and Department Coordinator in regards to credit options.
3. Students with a Daily Medical Excuse should check-in with their PE teacher or Nurse. If a student can observe/access course content, he/she should do so during the PE block.
Physical Education: Make-Up Policy
Make-up opportunities will be provided for students to achieve class objectives missed as a result of absences and must be initiated by the student using the following procedure.
1. A student may enter any Physical Education class for make-up with the approval of the teacher in charge.
2. A statement of make-up completed must be presented to the student’s regular teacher by the student.
3. An incomplete grade must be made up prior to the end of the succeeding marking period, otherwise the grade will be recorded as a failure.
