About Ms. Nelson

Jenna Nelson has been teaching at Lewiston High School since 2010. She received her Master of Music in Music Education, with Jazz Pedagogy emphasis, from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. She received her bachelor's degree in Music Education (combined vocal/instrumental, with additional jazz emphasis) from the University of Southern Maine. Her primary instrument in college was percussion, but she considers herself a multi-instrumentalist and can be found performing various instruments with community ensembles and local musical theater productions.

She teaches the following classes for the 2019-20 school year:

  • Concert Band (year-long class) - concert band instrument experience required
  • String Orchestra (year-long) - violin, viola, cello, or bass experience required
  • Jazz Class (year-long class) - previous instrumental experience required, ability to read music preferred
  • Freshmen Sectional Rehearsals (each freshman has 40 minutes of small group rehearsal once a week, during their "Flex" (study hall). They meet at the same time as other freshmen who play similar instruments.)
  • Intro to Digital Music (semester class) - open to all students regardless of previous experience

She directs the following after-school activities:

  • String Ensemble
  • Jazz Ensemble
