Sherri Boschee has been the vocal director at Lenox Community School District since 2008. Ms. Boschee teaches kindergarten through sixth grade general music, Junior High Vocal grades 7-8, and High School Vocal grades 9-12. Under her direction, the Lenox High School Vocal Department has received 14 Division I ratings at the Iowa High School Music Association’s (IHSMA) State Large Group Contest, as well as multiple best of centers at State Solo and Ensemble. The program has also produced two All-State Chorus participants. While at Lenox, Ms. Boschee has hosted the Pride of Iowa Honor Choir and helped with two of the IHSMA State Solo and Ensemble Contests.
Ms. Boschee is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Music. She earned her teaching credentials at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, in Platteville, Wisconsin. While at Gustavus, she performed with the Gustavus Choir, Gustavus Stage Band, Adolphus Band and numerous instrumental and vocal chamber groups. While at UW-Platteville, she performed with the Collegiate Chorus and studied voice with Barbara Burdick.
While studying for her teaching certification, Ms. Boschee worked for Southwestern Community School District in Hazel Green, Wisconsin. Upon completion, she moved to Davenport, Iowa and commuted to Mediapolis to teach at Mediapolis Community School District where she taught 3rd and 5th grade General Music, Junior High Choir and High School Choir for two years. Due to an illness in the family, Ms. Boschee took a year off from teaching. In 2005, she accepted the K-12 vocal music position at Essex Community School District in Essex, Iowa. She taught there until 2008. Ms. Boschee then moved to Lenox, Iowa to begin her tenure at the Lenox Community School District as the K-12 Vocal Music Teacher. She is a member of the Iowa Choral Directors Association and has also assisted with the Speech and Drama Department at Lenox. Ms. Boschee recently earned her certification to adjudicate for the Iowa High School Music Association.
Ms. Boschee is proud of what the Lenox Vocal Department has achieved and she looks forward to many more years of excellent music making. Go Lenox Vocal!
Tim McConnaughey has been the band director at Lenox Community Schools since the fall of 2016. He has taught a total of eighteen years in both instrumental and vocal music. Mr. McConnaughey currently teaches 5th grade, junior high, and high school concert band as well as competitive marching band and pep band. Under his direction, the Lenox High School Concert Band has received two Division I ratings at the Iowa High School Music Association’s (IHSMA) State Large Group Contest. Mr. McConnaughey is hoping to revive the Lenox Jazz Band in the future. He also organizes and hosts the annual Lenox Junior High Honor Band and has helped host the Iowa High School Music Association Solo and Ensemble Contest here at Lenox and Large Group Contest in previous school districts.
Mr. McConnaughey is a graduate from Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in K-12 Vocal and Instrumental Music Education with major emphasis on saxophone and a minor on flute. While at Peru State, he performed in the Jazz Band, Pep Band, Woodwind Ensemble, and Marching Band as Saxophone Section Leader and Drum Major. He was also Peru State College's Music Department Representative Saxophone Solo in 1999 at the Nebraska Music Educator Association Conference. He has also served as a collegiate representative for Peru State's local Music Educator National Conference Chapter and Peru State Collegiate Band President.
After graduating from college, Mr. McConnaughey taught two years at Weeping Water Public Schools in Weeping Water, Nebraska. He has spent the last 16 years teaching in southwest Iowa. He has taught at Hamburg, Essex, and most recently at the Clarinda Academy. Mr. McConnaughey is currently an active member of Iowa Bandmasters Association and Southwest Iowa Bandmasters Association. He is also an active adjudicator for the Iowa High School Music Association judging for Solo and Ensemble and Large Group Festivals.
Mr. McConnaughey is excited to be the Lenox Band director and has hopes for many great things for the Lenox Bands. Go Tigers!
Lisa Mongar has been a drama director and speech coach for almost thirty years. Since 1993, she has worked with the talented students of Lenox High School. Each year, she directs a play during first semester and coaches the large group and individual events’ speech teams during second semester. She is assisted in all these endeavors by vocal director Sherri Boschee. Dance instructor Brenda Israel also assists with choreography and technical needs. During Mrs. Mongar’s tenure, LHS has advanced performers to State Large Group and State Individual Events’ speech competitions every year. Of those performers, twenty-eight groups and individuals have been nominated to the All-State Speech Festival, the highest honor a speech performer can receive in the state of Iowa.
Mrs. Mongar holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, with a comprehensive English/Speech/Theatre major. While in college, she participated in various theatrical productions and competed as a member of the forensic team in the categories of After Dinner Speaking and Informative Speaking.
Upon graduation, Mrs. Mongar was a long-term substitute teacher in Hopkins, Missouri. She then was a secondary English teacher, drama director, and speech coach in Maysville, Missouri, from 1989-1993.“Ms. Mo’s” motivation as a fine arts’ educator has always been to increase student knowledge and confidence through participation in plays and public speaking while having fun in the process. As Professor Randy Pausch once said, “Never, ever underestimate the importance of having fun.”
