Holes is about a 14-year-old boy who is falsely accused of theft and sent to a juvenile detention center. The plot explores 3 interconnecting stories that relate to the main character and touch on themes such as racism, homelessness, illiteracy, and arranged marriage.


Connection to the Essential Question: Louis Sacher includes many children characters in this story that have been placed in the juvenile detention center for various reasons. The children within the detention center go through many trials and triumphs throughout the story.
