Thanks for taking the time to get to know me!
Growing up a daughter of a high school science teacher, I was greatly influenced as I approached college. My first choice was to aim for a career in Physical Therapy. In high school, as well as college, I was a Student Athletic Trainer. As I progressed in college, I changed majors..... My undergraduate degree is from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology Education. After teaching for a while in Mississippi and Georgia, I wanted to really know what made the cell tick... I returned to college first to Mississippi College (while attending night school, I continued teaching high school and then taught freshman biology classes in the summer at M.C.) After a couple of years, I chose to return to college, yet again. This time to the University of Mississippi Medical Center studying cells at a more molecular level. I had the exciting exposure of being able to work in the research setting as I earned my second Master's from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. My focus of study was in Microbiology/Virology and I was able to work in an Infectious Diseases lab at the Centers of Disease and Prevention labs in Atlanta.
I've been married to my supportive husband for 30+ years and we have 4 remarkable kids. 2 have graduated from Leander ISD, 2 are still in Leander ISD. Through their activities, I have been involved with LISD as a parent, volunteer, substitute, long-term substitute, and Instructional Assistant (SPED & elementary PE) for over 15 years. I have been part of the Special Education department as well as the Science department in LISD. I last taught at Rouse High School, where I will miss a fantastic team of teachers and wonderful students.
In my spare time, I am outside staying active, as much as possible. Always making time to run - it helps clear the cobwebs out of my head! Trail running is my favorite. My current running partners are my mutts, Chewy, & Daisy. I enjoy cycling but I haven't been on the bike in a while. I keep it handy for the spare two hours that may eventually come available for a good ride. The latest adventure in the outdoors has been backpacking!
