Grading Policy:
Students will be assessed on essential learning outcomes for the grading period using a rubric scale that ranges from emerging to advanced (1-4). Our grade book will reflect our 1-4 system as a 70(Emerging), 80(Developing), 90(Proficient), and 100(Advanced) reported in the Home Access Center. 70% of a student’s grade for that course will be Knowledge & Thinking (learning standards), with 30% being a combination of agency and collaboration.
Absences
As per district policy, you will have one day to make up work for each day you miss. Some circumstances will need a different approach - come talk to me.
Projects
We will have projects throughout the year, and every student must act appropriately. If you do not follow proper safety procedures and use tools correctly, then you will be removed from the project, and disciplinary action will be taken. Safety is of the highest importance, and we will treat it so.
Late work
Late work will be accepted up to one week after the assignment is due. If more time is needed, talk to me.
Retakes
At DMS, we want to encourage growth mindsets in our students therefore, we will allow for multiple opportunities for demonstrating proficiency. When a student shows growth in a skill, we will replace the grade in the grade book with one that reflects their current level.
Behavior
Students in Gateway are expected to show the best behavior and represent the campus well. Violations of the student code of conduct will result in a DAF, referral, or even removal from the program. This will be gauged by the severity or the frequency of the violation.
LISD Non-Discrimination Statement
The Leander Independent School District offers Career and Technical Education Programs in sixteen different career cluster areas. Admission to these programs is based on interests and aptitude, age appropriateness, and available class space.
It is the policy of Leander Independent School District not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex or handicap in its vocational programs, services or activities as required by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.
