Dual LAnguage Program

A MESSAGE FROM THE BILINGUAL STAFF

Central Elementary is proud to provide a Dual Language Approach to Second Language Acquisition. Our goal is to have our students grow up to be bilingual and biliterate citizens in our global society. The Central community values each student’s cultural and language needs. Our continued goal is to challenge and support all students’ cultural as well as academic needs by continuing Professional Development targeting effective methods and strategies for English Language Learners.

SIOP Model

In 2018 our teachers will receive training and be coached throughout the next four years in Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocool better known as The SIOP Model. It is our school's and district's initiative to have every single teacher trained in this model and implement these practices and strategies within the next four years.

If your child praticipates in our Dual Language program they will be in a 50/50 (English/Spanish) instructional setting as follows:

• Kindergarten & First Grade: Reading in child's native, Math, Science & Social Studies 50/50.
• 2nd grade - 5th grade: 50/50 all content areas.

The goal of Dual Language programs is to enrich, challenge, and educate children to become biliterate learners, not just bilingual.

Mission: The mission of the bilingual/Multicultural/Migrant Education Department is to provide each school:

a) support and resources for implementation of a successful, research-based bilingual program

b) appropriate professional development and

c) guidance for optimal use of resources and training and for maintaining fidelity to the school's bilingual program model.

Un Mensaje del Personal Bilingüe

Central Elementary se enorgullece de ofrecer un enfoque de lenguaje dual para la adquisición de una segunda lengua. Nuestro objetivo es que nuestros estudiantes crezcan para ser ciudadanos bilingües y biliterados en nuestra sociedad global. La comunidad central valora las necesidades culturales y lingüísticas de cada estudiante. Nuestro objetivo continuo es desafiar y apoyar las necesidades culturales y académicas de todos los estudiantes al continuar el desarrollo profesional orientado a métodos y estrategias eficaces para los aprendices del idioma inglés y de español.

SIOP Model

En 2018 nuestros maestros recibirán capacitación y serán entrenados durante los próximos cuatro años en el modelo de observación de instrucción protegida Protocool (SIOP). Es la iniciativa de nuestra escuela y distrito el tener a cada maestro capacitado en este modelo y poner en práctica estas prácticas y estrategias en los próximos cuatro años.

Si su hijo (a) praticipa en nuestro programa de lenguaje dual, ellos estarán en un modelo de instrucción 50/50 (Inglés/Español) como sigue:

• En Kinder y primer grado: lectura se enseñara el el idioma materno del niño, matemáticas, ciencias y estudios sociales 50/50 en ingles y español.
• 2º - 5º grado: 50/50 de todas las áreas de contenido.

El objetivo del rograma de lenguaje dual es enriquecer, desafíar, y educar a los niños en dos idiomas para que seán estudiantes biletrados no sólo bilingüe.
