Course Description:

World History for ninth grade is a one semester long class that is the first of three semesters of world history a student will take. Initially the class focuses on developing map reading skills and geography. Next students examine various world religions as they relate to the cultural roots of different civilizations. In an review of Western Civilization (pre-1450) students learn about the Fall of the Western Roman Empire, Feudalism, the Crusades, and Bubonic Plague. The class will take a deeper look at the time period from 1450-1750 examining topics such as the Renaissance, Exploration of the Americas by Europeans, Expansionist Asian Empires, and European Monarchies.

Thematically the course focuses on the expansion of empires and cultural encounters. The Classroom Based Assessment (CBA) for this course is focused on Colombian Exchange and the encounters between European Empires and Indigenous Central and South American Empires . Achieving standard on the CBA is a requirement to pass this course. The sophomore World History course picks up at 1750 where this course leaves off.
