Practice Strategies

* Work on a small chunk. Work on the next small chunk. Put both chunks together.

*Play 5 times in a row, no mistakes.

*Practice slow and then increase the speed. This is great to do with a metronome.

*Play the notes without the rhythm.

*Add one note at a time.

*Write in any unusual fingerings/letternames. (ex. L1 or H3)

*Clap and count the rhythm.

*Play the rhythm on an open string.

*Count out loud while you play.

*Play without the slurs.

*Look for patterns.

*Practice runs using different rhythms.

1)long-quick-long-quick, then quick-long-quick-long

2) fast-fast-fast-slow; then fast-fast-slow-fast; then fast-slow-fast-fast; then slow-fast-fast-fast

*Play pizzicato sections with the bow; play arco sections pizzicato.

*Record and listen for mistakes.

*Work on the end, then back up a measure or two (or four).

*End with a run-through.
