Physical Education Rules, Regulations & Expectations
Student Arrival/ Dismissal:
Students will arrive to class on time: dressed and in the gym 5 minutes after the bell
Students who are late must bring a pass from a teacher
Students are expected to be changed and in the gym 5 minutes after the bell
Lateness to class effects class participation, therefore student’s grade will be impacted
Repeated lateness will result in an after school detention.
Leaving class before the bell rings counts as a skip and the student will receive a zero for the day
Behavioral Expectations:
Courtesy
Listen while others talk
Do not make fun of others
Assist others
Sportsmanship and Leadership
Appropriate language is expected: obscene gestures will not be tolerated
Mature behavior is expected
Positive attitude is encouraged
Participation:
Required in all classes
Physical fitness is a major objective in PE. Effort to the best of one’s ability is expected at all times
Dress Requirement
A change of clothing for class is required: shorts, tee shirt, and sneakers. Sweatshirt, wind pants, etc. are recommended for cooler weather
Due to the consideration of health, safety, and emotional wellbeing of all students a FULL TEE SHIRT is required
A Full tee shirt is defined as a shirt that has sleeves and covers the top three inches of the shorts/pants that student is wearing. A full tee shirt must cover the midsection of the student as the student performs all activities asked of him/her throughout the class.
Students wearing shorts that cause the student to restrict full range of motion during any activity will be asked to wear different shorts for PE class
School issued uniforms can NOT be worn for PE class
Personal hygiene is promoted
Safety: clothing that hinders movement or interferes with optimal participation will not be allowed
Sneakers with laces are required:, Laces must be tied so the shoe is secured on the foot, laces must be tied in front of the tongue of the sneaker, no elevated sneakers, no-slip shoes are required, no hiking boots, no work boots, no sandals and flip flops.
Sneakers that mark the gym floor will not be allowed
Safety:
No gum chewing, long hair tied back, and sneakers tied
No hats, no horseplay, no jewelry, and use equipment properly
Locker Room
Locks and lockers are the property of the school. Defacement or damage to either will not be tolerated and the students will be held responsible
We use school issued locks only, all others will be cut off. This is the only warning.
*Inform the PE instructor immediately if there is a mechanical problem with the lock, or there is damage to your locker.
Locks:
Lock combinations are issued only to the lock’s assigned person, do not give out lock combinations to anyone
Students are responsible for making sure his/her lock is properly secured
Do NOT share lockers
School is not responsible for lost or missing items
Loss of school lock: inform PE instructor immediately of lost lock- student must pay $5 for replacement lock
Medical: TELL US WHAT YOU CAN DO!!!
You will be required to participate unless we have a note from a Doctor/Parent/Guardian/School Nurse that states that you ABSOLUTELY can do nothing
A student who is unable to participate in PE class must adhere to the following procedures
Student must report to class: Attendance is required
Excuse for one class: a dated note signed by parent/guardian/school nurse is required. The student will have a packet do during class, with the opportunity to receive full credit
Excuse for two or more consecutive classes requires a doctor’s note indicating what the student is capable of doing. The student will have a packet to do during class with the opportunity to receive full credit.
Components of a PE Grade:
Jr. High Grading: 80% Daily participation and Effort, 20% Written Assignments
Sr. High Grading: 65% Daily participation and effort, 25% written assignment, and 10% Skill
Psychomotor: Skills tests, contributions to class activities, individual effort, game sense)
Cognitive: Written tests, contributions to class discussions, homework, fitness project, and application of knowledge in a “real world” setting
Affective: Cooperation, group interaction, and teamwork
*Daily participation and effort is based on a 4 point rubric scale (see below)
Graduation Credit (State Requirement)
In grades 9-12 students successfully passing a year of PE receive ½ credit toward 2 full credits required for graduation
Failures MUST be made up prior to graduation
A student who does not receive 2 credits of PE will not graduate on time
Attendance
Grades 7-12: each class meets every other day
It is important for each student to make every effort to attend and participate in each class. If a student is absent from PE class, he/she is responsible for the activity and information missed. Students are responsible for being aware of classes missed
Each student will be given two excused absences per quarter. If a student misses more than two PE classes in a quarter, the missed PE class SHOULD be made up. You will be given the opportunity to make up the time during another class throughout the school day or arrange a time with a PE instructor. If there are extenuating circumstances, communication with a PE instructor is imperative.
Unprepared:
There will be a required fitness plan for all 9-12 grade students. The fitness plan will be a major part of your grade. during quarter in which you complete the plan
