What is being purchased and how much is the cost?
65" Newline TT-7519RS with mobile stands. Each unit is $2,065.00, not including shipping (shipping TBD).
Is sourcing TVs from an alternate source an option?
Sourcing the new TVs from an alternate source is not an option. Magee needs to follow the lead of the Chief Tech Officer who has done thorough research on options. KM has a large District Tech department that took almost a full school year to review a variety of Promethean Board replacements that were the same, if not cheaper than the current Promethean Boards we have. Their device review also took into account our technology system, our firewall, and if our tech department can perform repairs when needed. When it comes to a product not chosen by the District, repairs, warranties, etc. have to be covered by a third party and all expenses are covered by Magee, not the District. With a District approved device, they cover the cost for repairs, etc.
When were the older Promethean Boards purchased/how old are they?
The older Promethean Boards are close to 15 years old.
Why is Magee looking to replace the current boards? Is there anything wrong with them?
This is not just Magee. All KM schools are going through a transition from Promethean Boards to interactive tvs. The Promethean Boards are aging out, the replacement parts are expensive, and the cost of a Promethean Board is significantly higher than the interactive TVs that are being purchased across all elementary schools. This decision to go from Promethean Boards to the Newline Interactive TVs was a decision made by the District Tech office for efficiency of use for teachers and students, as well as cost.
What will happen to the boards being replaced?
The current promethean boards being replaced are being stored at the District Office and being utilized for parts if any current Promethean Boards in the district need to be fixed and can not be replaced at that time. The goal is to slowly transition all KM classrooms to interactive TVs.
What are the main differences between the old boards and the new TVs?
