KMHS athletes and/or their families are expected to volunteer for four hours per sport during the school year at a Booster Club sponsored event. Typically these events involve working in one of three concession stands located both outside (soccer stadium and football stadium) and inside (near the gymnasiums). Please note that volunteering at games involving younger students’ sports teams, including those affiliated with the Junior Lasers; participating in community events; and/or agreeing to be a referee or umpire does not meet the volunteer hour requirement as the funds generated do not benefit the Booster Club.
Ideally each student athlete and/or a family member would volunteer several times throughout the year as there are multiple opportunities provided. For every hour that a student athlete and/or a family member volunteers at a Booster Club sponsored event, the time given goes toward the sport program of their choice; which should be indicated on the sign-in sheets located inside each concession stand. These hours are recorded on the Volunteer Hours spreadsheet which is linked on the Booster Club website. The Booster Club uses the information from the spreadsheet when determining whether to fund athletic team requests throughout the year. Typically, requests are approved; provided the teams have met the majority of their volunteer hours. Recently, the Booster Club has given money to multiple sports to help with equipment upgrades, new uniforms, fees for coaches, transportation, field or rink rentals, etc.
Athletes may also use their accrued Booster Club volunteer hours toward the Dick Ohm Merit Award, school club volunteer hours, required sporting team hours, and more. Thus, athletes who are volunteering at a Booster Club sponsored event can actually benefit from the time they’ve given, twice! Please note that athletes and/or family members must be at least 14 years old to either volunteer in the concession stands or be in the stands due to liability. All volunteer opportunities are linked through Sign-Up Genius links provided on the Booster Club website. Occasionally there are a few exceptions as specific sporting events may push their sign-ups out to their athletes and their families before sharing the link with everyone.
