Holly Harper

Hello! My name is Holly Harper, I grew up in Abilene, Texas and graduated from Abilene High School in 2003!!  I graduated from Hardin Simmons University with an All-Level Art Education Degree.  I am certified to teach EC-12 Art and General Education EC-4.  I've been teaching at Kilgore High School since August 2010 and I LOVE IT HERE!! GO DOGS!!!  I love to paint with watercolors and oil paint!!  In my spare time I love to: spend time with Jesus, my daughter, my son, or my husband, and help out at  Pursuit Church in Kilgore, TX! I enjoy watching movies (no scary ones), playing board games, and SINGING!!  In fact, I tried out for American Idol, back in 2009, it was such a fun experience!

As an Educator, I've learned that in Art, the best teacher is learning from your mistakes and learning how to improve or fix an artwork.  Helping students feel more confident in drawing & painting and helping them increase their skills and confidence, is my ultimate goal as an art teacher.

Research has shown than 95% of Kindergartners are creative, but by the time students reach 12th grade only 5% who graduate are creative!

Maslow stated that everyone has an aspect of creativity in their personality. And the more our society becomes enculturated the more we lose our creativity.  Fine Arts enhances multiculturalism in the classroom, and encourages students to become aware of their creativity.  It gives them the opportunity to think critically in a new way!

It is my goal as an educator to help students realize their potential, not just as artists but also creative people.  As they begin to realize their own creativity, I will help them with techniques & skills acquired to become an "Artist in the making."
