Process

This Project Justice WebQuest laid out with at least 10 days worth of activities, assuming that you can spend a block of 1.5 to 2 hours each day for the activities. You may need to adjust your timeline according to the amount of time you actually have available each day.

What is justice? (1.5 to 2 hours)

    • Review guidelines

    • Explore media influence on our thoughts about social justice

    • Watch videos about other young people that are changing the world by being advocates for an issue they really care about.

    • Create a classroom blog and share your thoughts on what you are learning about justice on the blog. (find more info about creating a blog under Teacher Resources)

Research (experts, guest speakers & field trips) (6 to 8 hours)

    • Brainstorm a list of people and organizations that your group wants to contact & create a list of questions to ask.

    • Gather data by contacting those people and organizations. If you can find a way to make a field trip happen to visit the people or organizations, that would be great. It really helps break down stereotypes to visit the locations where services are provided to those in the community in need. You might also consider inviting them to speak to the whole class.

    • Blog your thoughts about what you have learned and experienced.

Plan Project (1.5 to 2 hours)

    • Brainstorm a list of justice issues that kids in the class or group really care about.

    • If you are already part of group, that group needs to pick one issue. If you are brainstorming at the class level, you need to break into groups according to what issue you want to work on.

    • Create a project plan.

Create Project (4.5 to 6 hours)

    • Research issue.

    • Create presentation.

Share Project (1.5 to 2 hours)

    • Present project to class

    • Find ways to share project at a school-wide level.

    • Share project online and think of ways you can share with family, friends and others.
